Overview
PhD candidate position in “Research of biomass with environmentally friendly additives and development of technology for improving the metagenesis process and biogas upgrading”
Open application for a doctoral candidate in the Technological sciences Environmental Engineering field
The doctoral candidate position is available in the Environmental Engineering Faculty Department of Environmental Protection and Water Engineering. Applicants interested in other research topics related to biogas production and upgrading are also welcome to apply.
Research topic description
The work will consider the processes of methanogenesis occurring in the anaerobic treatment of biomass in bioreactors. To improve the production of methane, various environmentally friendly biodegradable additives and inoculums will be applied. During the research, new knowledge will be obtained about the preparation of raw materials with environmentally friendly additives for biogas production, and the quantitative and qualitative composition of biogas when processing plant waste with environmentally friendly additives. The physicochemical, and microbiological properties of the raw material and the digestate will be determined. Studies will be carried out on biogas treatment from carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S) using environmentally friendly biodegradable additives. Based on research, a complex technology will be developed aimed not only at improving the quality of biogas at its production stage but also at the processing of the resulting biogas.
The selected candidate will work on the PhD thesis under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr Alvydas Zagorskis. The successful applicant will have to attend scientific conferences, meetings and internships at the other universities.
Requirements
• Required background: master’s studies in the field of environmental engineering, environmental protection or other related fields. Scientific articles and participation in scientific conferences would be an advantage.
• Expected skills and knowledge: ability to master equipment for physicochemical and microbiological research. Master and apply mathematical models for environmental processes. Have basic knowledge in the fields of environmental component pollution research pollution reduction technologies, and renewable energy resources.
It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
For more information
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. The position may not be opened if no qualified candidate is found. Additional information regarding the post may be obtained from Assoc. Prof. Dr Alvydas Zagorskis, e-mail: alvydas.zagorskis@vilniustech.lt
